M Ali Akram
Principal - Solicitor (England & Wales) - Barrister (Lincoln's Inn)

Ali is the firm's Prinicipal and has a wide breadth of experience in all areas of Civil, Commercial and serious Criminal Litigation advising both individuals and corporates. Ali is a tenacious problem solver who brings to the Practice a background of sound legal knowledge obtained through many years of legal learning and practice together with the unique ability to put clients at ease.

Educated at University College London, the London School of Economics and the Inns of Court School of Law, Ali has both a Bachelors degree in Law (1997) and a Masters degree in the Law of International Finance and Regulation (1998) and was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1999 and admitted as a Solicitor in 2003. Having previously worked as a consultant at big four accountancy firm, KPMG, and then worked at leading City law firm, SJ Berwin LLP, Ali gained extensive experience of managing and responding to extremely high value high profile litigation as well as providing a robust defence to serious criminal charges. Ali has worked in the Legal and Compliance departments of ING Barings and Goldman Sachs International advising and dealing hands on with issues such as Fraud, Insider Dealing and Regulatory Compliance.

As well as general litigation matters, Ali specialises in advising corporate clients in the CPU, mobile phone and carbon trading sectors whom are often facing allegations from HMRC of having actual or constructive knowledge of MTIC fraud and as a consequence have had VAT repayments withheld or are being investigated. Ali regularly appears as an advocate in the former VAT and Duties Tribunal on behalf of Appellants in high value VAT repayment appeals.
